Tia made her way through the familiar dim-lit hall and all the way down to the large door that opened to the studio. She tapped lightly. No one answered. Tia stepped back and waited for the door to open.

Jared was expecting her at the studio today. Their meet on Friday had gone well. They recorded a song and Jared talked about getting her onto a few radio shows and then getting things to go from there for her. She hadn't made up her mind as yet whether she was going to quit her job. Several people were already interested in her. But she needed to pull out more as Jared said.

Tia tapped the door again. She listened. If there were any movements behind it, she couldn't tell. She waited. Suddenly the door swung open. A girl was behind it. She looked like one of the girls that were hanging with Jared that night at Montigo's.

Jared was standing behind of her. He was the one who'd opened the door.

"Tia," he said. His face looked shocked. It almost sounded as if he wasn't expecting her. Tia was beginning to think that this was his default greeting tone.

"Jared."

The girl shifted uncomfortably standing between them both but facing Tia. She wore a mini skirt and a low-lying neck--obviously out for a grab at some attention.

Then Jared seemed to remember that she was there. "This is Lisa," he added.

Lisa put her hand on her neck to avoid reaching out to shake Tia's hands. Good, because Tia didn't want to shake hers. "Lisa is doing some work with me also. Although I won't say that you guys have much similar tastes." Jared chuckled nervously.

Tia eyed him up and down. Lisa said nothing.

"Okay," he continued, speaking to Lisa only now, "It was nice working with you. I'll see you around."

Lisa removed her hand from her neck. As the long extensions flipped over her shoulder Tia barely noticed a hickie on the corner of her neck. She tried not to stare but she wondered how recent it was.

Lisa turned to Jared, "Sure," and then her lips curved seductively.

Jared pretended not to notice.

"Nice meeting you Tia," she said in what Tia thought was one of the most insincere tones. She returned the sentiments and stepped aside while Lisa left the studio and walked down the hall.

Tia walked into the studio behind of Jared and slammed the door close. She wanted to ask more about Lisa. But she would come off as jealous. Plus, Jared was not her man.

"So I talked to Linton and he said that he has a team ready to prep you for your interview next week."

"I though that I'd just be on the radio."

"You thought you'd just be on the radio?" Jared chuckled. "Look, babe, a lot is riding on this. It's not 'just' radio and besides, you need to be prepped in these interviews if you've never done any before. Okay?"

Tia nodded. Of course, she needed to be but Jared was still making a bigger deal of things than there needed to be.
